Baseball Bobbleheads for Peru

My daughter Stephanie was adopted in 2003 from China. Our family has come to understand that we are together because of other people's decision to give. The woman who gave my daughter the gift of life, the foster family who took her in, and our families who helped bring Stephanie home.

In turn we try to share that message with our daughter now four years old. This summer we had the opportunity to enjoy several baseball games; the most enjoyable of which were "Bobblehead Games" with the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks. All the members of the family would receive a bobblehead doll as a giveaway at the game. Yet we really do not need to display 3 floppy headed images of Orlando Hudson or Kenji Johjima.

We have begun to sell off the bobbleheads and take the proceeds to provide small loans through the kiva.com website. The first person Steph and I selected was a woman running a small retail shop in Peru. Stephanie's eyes were drawn to the candy and cola (she wants to know when we can visit her store). I will never forget the small stores similar to this one we visited in China when we went to get Steph. This is one small thing we can do to help, and one small lesson Steph and I can share.
