Re-gift a life
by Tress Chapin | gift type: Other, CorporateFor my new years resolution I decided to change someone’s life. Then I saw a news program on gift cards and that there are 8 billion in unused gift cards floating in limbo. So I decided to see how many lives I could change with a re-gift a life program.
I’m a baker at Publix so I contacted the company about taking donations of gift cards for a local women’s shelter. The Bridges shelter here in Nashville loved the Idea. People making donations can donate any and all gift cards even if they only have a small amount left on them. Shelter volunteers can exchange the cards on the internet for ones they can use and check at there local stores to find out the amounts on each card. They can then use the cards to feed, cloth, and reestablish lives for families in need. The stores only need to give a spot for a collection jar or box.
Now I’m contacting other grocery chains and woman’s and children centers so I can expand the program across the country. Now my goal is to change a million lives.
Personally I make nothing off any of this and no cash donations are taken. Stores allow the collecting and the woman’s and children’s centers pick them up.
The hardest part is getting the businesses to let us use those six square inches to put a donation box. I’m trying to get some kind of celebrity to help get us attention but that in its self is hard.
Any ideas on how to increase awareness would be helpful. I have a million people waiting.
