Can I Really Make a Difference? Yes!

by Alex W. | gift type: Time, Other

In a rare time of doubt and with thoughts of little hope, I always ask myself, "can I really make a difference, can I possibly give anymore, can I change the world?" Whether I am quick to answer the question or I spend some time arguing with myself, the answer is always "yes."

I grew up surrounded by people and opportunities that support this answer. And because of that, I know I am lucky. I have been given the opportunity to be educated and with that comes the knowledge and understanding to have compassion, to be open to difference, and the desire to change the world for the better. This desire also comes from wanting to follow in the foot steps of my grandparents and parents, who gave and give their time, money, and effort to important causes, and my sister who has started an organization that raises both awareness and funds for the ongoing genocide in Darfur.

From these amazing people, I've learned that no matter who you are, where you are, or where you came from, there is always the opportunity to make somebody's day in the smallest or biggest way. It's the little things that count, the thoughtless, but daily acts of random kindness.

That little word "yes" is what keeps me going, keeps me giving, keeps me learning and teaching. It has shaped who I am and what I do everyday. Giving is something I think we can all do and be proud of. On both the giving and receiving. end, a change happens inside of us and our lives are that much more meaningful.
